Echo/ Corps Noir #1

[person_by] Mustapha Azeroual

July 2021

Echo is rooted in the continuity of the ELLIOS project carried out in partnership with LESIA (Pôle d'Observation du Soleil de l'Observatoire de Paris-Meudon) on a photographic study of the sun. Through this work, Mustapha Azeroual tends to materialize the light, condition of the visible, paradoxically invisible.

Through these Daguerreotype prints (unique pieces), the photographer attempts to define an inventory of the form of light through the capture of flashes, photographic substitutes for the sun. Photographing portable and studio lighting leads to highlighting light, not only as a condition of the visible, but as the first form of subjectivity of the appearance of the subject. An approach in the form of an inventory that tends to draw an aesthetic of light.

A scientist by training, his work is based on observation and experimentation experimentation, confronting the historical techniques of shooting and printing to the contemporary with the contemporary issues of photography. Questioning the tools the process of appearance and the supports, the artist privileges above all the point of view of the spectator.
